Home & Field Services

The largest fragmented services market in the country runs on paper.

US home services is a market measured in the hundreds of billions, delivered by roughly two and a half million mostly single-owner businesses. Almost none of them run software that connects the call to the invoice. The incumbent platforms monetise the introduction rather than the operation — which leaves the operation itself unclaimed.

How the market is structured

Published estimates of US home services run from roughly $600 billion to $1.4 trillion, and the spread is a definitional artefact — whether you count materials, whether you count new construction, whether you count the informal economy. Every source agrees on the structural fact that matters: the market is highly fragmented, composed overwhelmingly of small independent operators in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, cleaning, landscaping and roofing.

That fragmentation is why lead-generation platforms work commercially and fail the customer. When supply is atomised, an intermediary that controls demand can charge for access to it. The contractor pays per enquiry, including the enquiries that never become work, and has no relationship with the platform beyond that toll.

Where the opportunity is

A contractor's actual problem is rarely a shortage of leads. It is that nothing runs the company between the phone call and the paid invoice: no scheduling that survives a cancellation, no quoting that produces a document a homeowner trusts, no way to answer the phone while on a roof. That is a software problem, and it is worth a recurring subscription in a way a single lead never is.

The route in is to be useful first. A directory that is genuinely complete and genuinely verified, plus free qualified demand, earns the right to sell the operating layer. The sequence matters: a provider who has already received real work from you will evaluate your software very differently from one receiving a cold call.
